Core Common Assessments
The 8th Grade Science course has three core assessments: Core 1, Core 2, and Core 3. In the space below, we have a brief description of each, along with some answers to questions that are frequently asked about the core assessments.
CORE 1: This is a performance assessment called "The Alien Assessment". The assessment is to be given to students during the Chemistry Unit of the course. The assessment has to do with acids and bases (pH). Your building science coordinator will have copies for you.
CORE 2: This is also a performance assessment and is called "Trouble in Log Flume Country". This assessment is to occur during the Forces and Motion Unit of the course. Your building science coordinator has copies.
CORE 3: These 4 separate assessment that are administered just after the unit is completed. They are the Forces and Motion Core Assessment (30 items), the Chemistry Core Assessment (30 items), the Body Systems Core Assessment (20 items), and the Astronomy Core Assessment (20 items).
These assessments are to rolled into the marking periods points. This is for 7th and 8th grade core assessments, not 9th grade.
These assessments can be adjusted for special education needs.
